On a chilly Saturday, March the 12th, 2011, TCF Canada hosted over 550 people who braved the elements to attend an evening of fun and serious purpose with Dr Ahson Rabbani. The serious purpose was to create awareness and raise donations for the cause of education in Pakistan as pursued by TCF. The fun component came from one of Pakistan’s most recognized TV figures, Zia Mohyeddin who entertained the audience with his reading of various pieces of Urdu and English literature.
TCF supporters from the Greater Toronto Area gathered at an upscale venue to express their support for TCF and their concern for the state of education in Pakistan. They were offered fact-laden yet inspiring presentations by the President of TCF Canada, Mr Aziz Rakla and Dr Ahson Rabbani. Mr Rakla informed the audience of the key developments in TCF Canada while Dr Rabbani talked about TCF Pakistan and the milestones it reached in 2010 and the plans for the future.
Dr Rabbani urged everyone to help the disadvantaged children of Pakistan get a decent education. Assisted by a moving video presentation, Dr Rabbani pointed to the high return on investment offered by education in terms of socio-economic development of a country.
The evening was emceed by Mr Kamran Niazi who introduced the main attraction of the evening, Zia Mohyeddin. Mr Mohyeddin’s reading of classic Urdu literary excerpts was preceded by a sit-down dinner and followed by a silent-auction of various donated items.
